World-renowned sculptor and Decatur native Preston Jackson has been commissioned to create a sculpture of Ellsworth Dansby Jr., which will be placed at the elementary school named for Dansby.

The sculpture will be unveiled in 2026 as part of the Macon County African American Heritage Trail, an initiative dedicated to honoring the people, places, and stories that shaped our community and whose contributions have too often gone unrecognized.
